First take off the steering wheel. Remove the BMW symbol in the middle of the steering wheel and take off the nut underneath, mark the wheel so you can realign it correctly when you reinstall it. The manual says to remove the steering column covers but i did it without removing them. Take off the plastic peice below the instrument cluster by pushing the plastic tabs from the rear ( behind dash ). Take out the 2 small Phillips screws above the cluster and the 2 small screws below it. Carefully rotate it forward. There are 3 harnesses attached to the back and 2 wire pairs and one other wire plugged into the back of this thing. The harnesses are color coded ( pull on the black center plasic piece till it comes up then pull off the connectors). Mark the other ones so you can put them back where they belong when you reinstall or install a new cluster. Installation reverse of removal.
