Replacement of the filter should take about an hour.

1. Disconnect the negative terminal from the battery (we don't want sparks within an open fuel tank).

2. Loosen the fuel filler cap to relieve any pressure in the tank.

3. Remove the backseat.

(Grab one side and pull straight up. You'll hear a click as the catch pulls out. Pull up the other side. At this point, you should be able to simply full the whole seat forward and remove it).

4. Remove the access cover.

Use a screwdriver to lever up the plate. It is usually held in place with some horrid sticky stuff. Pry it open gently.

5. Remove the fuel hose. There is a plastic circlip holding the tube in place. The clip slides out horizontally towards the back of the car.

Use a small flathead screwdriver to ease it out.

Remove the circlip completely, and the hose can then be simply pulled out.

6. Remove the wiring harness. The unit pulls straight up and out, but it is help in place with a plastic locking nib.

Use one small flathead screwdriver down the drivers side (right hand drive) of the unit. You'll see an opening. At the same time you are pulling the side away from the locking nob, have another larger flathead gently levering the unit in an upwards direction.

7. Move the top cover out of your way, and watch where that tacky stuff touches.

8. Remove the 8 screws around the access plate.

Best to loosen using a 8mm socket, then unscrew them using a Philips screwdriver.

9. move the metal cover plate, and you should be able to gently remove the complete unit from the tank.

Just be careful of the float arm. you may need to giggle it a bit.

10. Once out, the unit has 3 parts. The actual replacement filer is the middle part.

Remove the various bits gently. The 3 parts separate by releasing the retaining clips.

Everything else either pulls out or slides off.

To remove the electronic circuit/float arm, slide the circuitry section towards the bottom of the unit. It should click, then pop out.

The pump pulls straight out (may be stiff as it is held by a rubber O ring.

Refit everything into the new filter housing, reassemble the 3 parts and you are done.

Replace the new unit into the tank, and reverse the process.

The most difficult part of the whole exercise is getting both seat buckles back through the holes in the seat. (secret is to feed the seat belt though the holes and bucket them underneath the seat. Then re-install the seat, then use the seat belt to pull the buckles back through).
