Have an auto parts store do It for free or pull the battery and let sit for 10 minutes (will need radio code after and reprogram seats, presets)
Reset the Check Engine Light by disconnecting the battery for about 10 minutes.
If it was actually caused by a loose cap, it will reset itself in a few days.
Replace your gas cap and reset the code.
I replaced a broken Gas Cap 2 weeks ago and the Check Engine Light came on 1 week ago. I got the code P4055 today - and am hoping that the New Gas Cap will fix the problem. How can I reset the Check Engine Light?
how do you turn off or reset the check fuel cap light on a 1997 Mazda b 2300 2.3 4 cylinder engine.
GAs cap is more than likeky the problem, tighten the cap remove the emc fuse to reset the check engine light/ or tighten the cap and then take neg battery cable off for 5 mins to reset light
As long as it was full of oil when you cranked it, you did no damage whatsoever. The check engine light came on because the ECU detected a problem with the emissions system which was the cap missing. Have the check engine light reset and you will be fine. You can disconnect the negative battery cable for 5 minutes which may or may not reset the light. If not, it will have to be reset with an OBD2 scan tool.
with a scan tool after the repair has been completed.
There is no reset button or procedure for the Check Engine light. The CE light is reset with an OBD2 scan tool. If the gas cap was just loose, then just tighten it, (3 clicks), and after you drive for a few driving cycles the CE light should go off. If it does not then the loose gas cap may not be the problem. This will require the ECU to be scanned with an OBD2 scan tool.
Did you reset the Check Engine light? If not, reset by disconnecting the negative battery cable for a couple of minutes. This will erase the computer. Reconnect the battery cable and if everything is OK, the Check Engine light should be off.
first be sure it's the check engine light not the oil light big difference between the two. if it is the check engine light and the car was ran with the gas cap off it detected a evaporative emissions leak from the gas recirculation circut if you put the gas cap on and drive for approx one week the light may reset it self
You replaced the cap and it will take quite a few driving cycles for the light to go off if that was the culprit. Try disconnecting the negative battery cable for 5 minutes and that might reset the light.
