The Greco-Persian wars ended with more or less a return to the status quo between the major parties involved. The Greek mainland city-states remained free and independent of Persian control and many of the cities in Ionia (Asia Minor) also became free for sixty years, while Persia remained a major empire while retaining its control of Egypt, and eventually the Ionian states again.
