First thing make sure you don't have any bass boost or any thing such as that on the headunit. On headunit set bass level @ 2 on you need to turn volume up 3/4 of the way.(e.g. If it max at 40 then 25 would be 3/4 volume) Now start turning gain up alittle at a time listen for sub to start to distort. Stop as soon as you hear it then back gain down alittle. This will keep your amp from clipping which will kill it. Don't screw with gain just adjust bass levels from headunit from now on.
