when you use up more energy during exersize you resperate more, meaning that your body has to work harder to keep going, i.e. your heart beating faster to get much needed blood around the body faster.
this continues after exersize because your body cannot just stop working hard, it neds time for the body to calm down after exersize, and this is the reason your hard keeps beating fast after you have stopped exersizing.
