Chauncey Ellwood House was created in 1859.
My parents purchased a Zara Ellwood water-color painting when they got married in 1939. I asked my mother if the artist was famous. She replied, "she's an 'off-the-wall' alcoholic, Greenwich Village NYC painter. Maybe one day she will be."

I believe I answered your post before and have found paintings and mainly prints by Zara Ellwood, but could not find what an actual price of one of her paintings would go for at an art dealership. I suggest you go to a good art dealer with the painting (or take a picture of it) and see if they can tell you. Good luck I did come up with some information of a person to get in touch with off the web, but unless you are serious about purchasing a Zara Ellwood painting I wouldn't bother this person. While Zara Ellwood can be found on occasion in Manhattan and Brooklyn, I've never seen one in Pittsburgh so we brought one here. This piece has a very glamorous feel to it. In the original frame, it is large at 28" x 41." Email: pamela@preservecottage.com or 724-986-0741, Wed.-Sat. 11-5.
I too own an Zara Ellwood piece. They seem to be being sold from anywhere from $500 - $5000, depending on the size, condition, and quality of the piece. Luckily, for me, I just so happen to own the holy grail of Zara's work, it's called 'The Two Birds,' and it's magnificent. She painted back in the 1930's and 1940's here in New York I've been told by an antique dealer I met. Her work is considered 'antique,' and is collectible. I was close to selling mines recently, until I came across someone else selling one of her pices for $5000, out in Ohio (check Craigslist to see the ad). Hope I've helped you!

Zara Ellwood paintings go from anywhere in the neighborhood of $500 - $5000, depending on condition and subject matter. She was a painter living in Greenwich Village NYC, and painted back in the 1930's and 1940's. Some say she was an alcoholic. But, her work is very stunning. I should know. I have one of her best pieces. She remains pretty much a mystery, and very little is known about her. The big question is, whether she was a member of the historical 'Ellwood' family that emigrated here from England back in the 1800's. The family made a fortune in the barbed wire business, and the family members were artisans. If she is proven to be a member of this family, then her work would be considered historical, which would add to the value of her work. For now, I'm not selling mines. That is, unless I got an astonishing offer on the one that I have. My gut tells me that her work is going to be very valuable, if it already isn't. Hope I've helped you some.
