Arthropoda is very much a phylum, its prime and unique characteristic being jointed legs (arthropoda = jointed legs ;)). Animals include insects, arachnids, crustaceans and centi/millipedes. They all have the jointed legs and an exoskeleton they molt in order to grow. All but arachnids have compound eyes, also an unique trait.
