There are lot of rumors for a 2013 release date. I'm sure if there's a community of people desiring it, then Sega will resurrect the Dreamcast. If Sega releases Shenmue 3, on the Xbox 360/PS3 or XBLA/PSN, I believe there will not be a Dreamcast 2 anytime soon. Either way, it proves to Sega that people are still purchasing older Sega consoles and games, thus displaying the demand for a Dreamcast successor...

So they switched to making games and phased out the console for the Dreamcast. The games they create are made primarily for the other game consoles. The Japanese market may still be open to game production for Segas Dreamcast.

They used to. Ever hear of the Sega MegaDrive or the Sega Saturn? They also did a handheld device called the GameGear. Google it for more info. ;)
