The initial release of the 2012 Nexus 7 did not have the camera app installed, but future OS updates should have installed the app. If one still isn't installed on your Nexus 7, you can download a third party camera app, and it should function the same way as a smartphone camera app. The 2013 Nexus 7 should have the camera app pre-installed.
There are various types of Nexus devices, but the Nexus 7 is part of that same family.

Probably you should ask yourself if specs are more important? Is storage more important? As devices are moving more and more into the cloud, and the typical Nexus 7 is wifi only, getting the newer, better spec'ed 16 GB Nexus 7 would be the better option. However, if you value storing files such as music or videos more offline, then the original Nexus 7, which still has decent specs to hold its own, is another option.
Dont get either get the ipad 3 NO do not get the Ipad 3 way too expensive. I would suggest that you get the kindle fire HD because the sound is amazing along that it also has less glare than the original kindle fire. However, the Amazon app store is down by a lot. Compared to the Google Nexus 7's 800,00 apps Amazon only has around 600,00 apps. They got popular but not much important apps
If you need a small tablet then yes!
A good alternative would be an iPod because they cost less and pretty much have the same apps, except iPad's have a little more. If you want a large tablet, then you can get Nexus 7. Or for other purposes a Nook or a Kindle.
