no they shouldnt because a 12 year old still has easily broken bones and if you drop a block on your toes or fingers it could cause serious damage:
it depends if the 12 year old is having a hard time doing there homework or just might start skipping there home work and saying that there doing it then they should do somewhere u can see them. But if there capable of doing things on there own and is generally independent then they should do it in their room
