Absolutely not. There is a problem somewhere such as faulty installation or possibly the surface of the head is warped and needs to be machined. A factory installed gasket is good for at least 150k.
no it is not ok to drive with it blown u can damage more things then just the head
Not to fear, it is not, was not the head. Replaced the oil seal on the crank, no more oil leaks. Cost: $40, parts and labor.
if it is just a head gasket, it could be $400 or more depending on if it is the "front" head or the "rear" one. The rear head usually requires you to remove the engine. Most likely the head is also warped, etc (especially if overheated) and will need to be machined on a lathe or head replaced --- now the cost is upwards of $1000 or more
There should not be oil in the coolant. More than likely you have a blown head gasket or cracked head.
what are you asking here? PLease be more specific ...like - how do I know if my head gasket is blown, or what do I do about a blown head gasket ......
It really should be looked as a very temporary repair more of a get you home type of fix Best if a faulty head gasket is changed have the head skimmed and pressure tested whilst it is off best wishes
Never have seen a bad head gasket on a 3800 engine. The upper intake will leak coolant into the imtake ports and a greedy mechanic will tell you it's head gaskets. You may need to replace your oil pan gasket with a felpro perma dry gasket, cost more but worth it.
My estimate would be $1100 if you get replaced at a local shop, more if you take to a dealership. Very labor intensive job.
A head gasket is a gasket the separates the cylinder head and the block. It separates the coolant passages, cylinders and oil passages. There are many other posts on this page that will provide more details. The head gasket provides a seal between the head and the engine block.
If you're going to replace the motor then why would you be replacing the head gasket? Normally a blown head gasket will not require the engine to be replaced. If the head is cracked or warped it may need replacing but not necessarily the entire engine. Unless you continue driving the car after it got hot and blew the gasket more than likely the only thing that will need replacing is the gaskets itself. The only way to know for sure is to open it up. If only the gasket is defective you will more likely spend around $1000. But it really depends on who performs the repair.
This can only be one thing. The head gasket is bad. It has to be replaced. It is not good to drive the vehicel like this cause it can cause more engine problems down the road. this is an indicator of a bad head gasket, coolant cools the engine through a water passage around the outside of the cylinder walls. the coolant is leaking past the head gasket and passing through the exhaust valve into the tailpipe.
It can as one or more cylinders may have a misfire. A blown head gasket will destroy your engine.
