Tigers are carnivorous predators that can easily attack or kill humans. No country in the world allows people to have such dangerous animals as pets. Doing so is illegal and you can be jailed for doing so.

∙ 12y agoA tiger cannot be a pet for three reasons:
1. They are undomesticated animals, meaning they still have their primal instincts. One day your tiger could be your best friend, but the next you could be their lunch.
2. You'd be taking the tiger out of it's natural habitat. It is a wild animal that is meant to be wild. Imagine not being able to live where you're meant to be. A life in captivity is not a proper life for a wild creature, especially one as big as a tiger.
3. It would be very difficult to make the proper habitat for a tiger to be truly happy, in which case the tiger would be closer to it's primal instincts, wherein they could think you're prey one day when you walk into their enclosure to play. That's playing, alright.

How do people manage to keep baby tigers as a pet?
They should not keep baby tigers at all. This is a wild animal and will never be tame like the domestic dog. People sort of "manage to keep baby tigers as pets" because there are unscrupulous individuals out there who claim to be professional breeders of large cats and justify selling them to the idiots who want baby tigers as pets by claiming that they are hand-reared and therefore will be easy to handle as adults. This is where the concept of "keeping baby tigers as pets" gets tricky. At first they will treat the baby tiger as a cute cuddly member of the family. Maybe they are kept in kennels and maybe they are allowed the run of the house. Of course the baby tigers must be fed so that's another reason that people "manage to keep baby tigers as pets." Baby tigers grow up into juvenile tigers, then to adolescent tigers and then into adult tigers. During these transitions these "owners" who wanted to keep "baby tigers as pets" realize that they can no longer manage to keep these no longer baby tigers as pets, and in the end they don't really manage it at all. Once these "owners" have realised that their cute baby tiger is no longer cute and cuddly, they are abandoned. Some end up with unscrupulous "breeders" (who claim to be from "rescue" groups) beginning this shameful cycle all over again. The luckier ones are euthanized, instead of being sold on and living a very unnatural life. The REALLY lucky tigers that the people did not manage to ultimately keep will find homes in reputable rescue and rehabilitation centres to live out the rest of their lives in the relative safety of a very large, comfortable enclosure with lots of food, water and lifestyle more natural to them. Many of these lucky tigers that the people didn't really manage to keep will be given to zoos worldwide that have active, successful captive breeding programs that have been created to ensure the continuation of this species of magnificant cat, thereby hopefully saving them from extinction, cruel hunting practices, vendettas on the ones that become "maneaters", etc.
