What stores sell electric guitar pickups?

Guitar pickups are going to be found at many music shops. Places like Matt Smith's Music, Guitar Land, and Musician's Friend should all have them. If all else fails, try Amazon.

Is there such thing as a lefty pickup?

No, pickups are all the same, regardless of what handed guitar it is.

Does a guitar with active pickups and a stereo output jack require a stereo guitar cable for the pickups to function?

no I use the same gold plated Planet Waves guitar cable on all my guitars active or not, I've never heard of stereo guitar cables though.

How do you get a thick sound from a skinny guitar?

Its all in the pickups that you choose. Different pickups create different sounds. Add to that the fact that you can create just about any sound you want with the correct amplifier and you can see that whether or not the guitar is skinny has nothing to do with sound.

How do Guitar pickups work?

electricity comes from the wall and into the amplifier (A given) after its generated into the amp it goes through the cable into the guitar through the guitar it goes through all the electronics like the volume , tone knob..ect than the electricity goes into the pickups and than the electricity gets grounded

Can you install emg pickups in your Jackson rr5fr?

you can put them on any guitar from walmart guitars to any real guitar like your RR5. It'll cost a bit extra to re-wire the guitar to fit the EMGs in it as they take out all the old electronics but if you really want to go active by all means. Once they're in its the easiest thing in the world to switch them to other active pickups.

How exspensive is a guitar?

depends on what you want for your money. guitars can be bought second hand for as little as £30. prices then escalate steadily up to £10000 and above. if you want to buy a second hand guitar then you should ensure: -it has all of its strings (usually 6) and they are shiny -it's body and neck have no cracks in the wood -its pickups (the devices drilled into the body) are there and working -its connections are all fine (if it can run through an amp well then it should be fine) -all the frets ring clear when pressed down

Should the EMG 81 be in the guitar neck for leads and the EMG 85 on the guitar bridge for rhythm?

I've heard people switch them to that , but good thing about EMG pickups just like any other active pickups on the market you can swap them very easily without brining them to a guitar shop. you just take out the cable from the pickup and just replace it with say the 81, nothing fancy required... so go for it, some honestly like it more. Its all what you want to do really.

What are The two main types of electric guitar pickups?

well here's all you need to know humbucker think les paul single coil think fender than this is broken down even futher active humbucker (humbuckers that require batteries) active single coil stacked single coil (they sound like humbuckers) single coil piezo crystal pickups which is rare on guitars unless custom ordered or say a john petrucci or whatever guitar. They're acoustic sounding pickups for electrics for the player who demands everything in one guitar. now for humbuckers there's also F spaced for floyd rose guitars and regulars as well as 4 wire conductors for more options and regular 2 wire pickups.

What is the intensity of a guitar?

all depends on the amplifier and pickups , unplugged it can sound pretty weak but say an E minor chord in E flat tuning with death metal strings with blackout pickups through the right amp its a very intense experience.

What would be the best pickups for a guitar in a hard core band like The Devil Wears Prada?

There are many great hardcore/metal pickups out there, but the most popular are EMG pickups and Seymour Duncans (like Blackouts, specifically). It really all depends on taste, but I'm pretty sure TDWP uses Duncans in their guitars.

Why won't a Marshall guitar amp get distortion with gain all the way up?

AnswerMarshall amps are usually tube amps. Even if the gain is all the way up, you need volume to produce distortion. Try turning the volume up to about 6 and the gain down to 8. That should give you a little distortion. Want more? turn the volume up first. Also turn the volume on the guitar up. That should help. Even if the amp can produce gain it will still take a guitar with the proper pickups to get there. I play several tube amps. My Ibanez SV5470 has Seymour Duncan P-90's and a "quater ponder" single coil. I have the ability to play all three pickups in series. In this setup I get gain without the volume. Pickups can be rated in many ways. A pickup with high "Resistance(there's more to it but I'll keep it simple) will "push" an amp into a "gain" sound much easier than a low resistance pickup. Some pickups simply don't have the power to push an amp into the metal zone. Now I don't know anything about your guitar but based on your' description, I believe this is your' problem. It's like comparing a single coil strat to an Ibanez RG. Strats just don't have really strong pickups. They are designed for a "bell like tone". The RG only wants to overdrive any amp because the pickups have a great deal more resistance. Hope this helps.
