No, plywood alone is not strong enough for ceramic tile. These floors require a very sturdy subfloor at least 1 1/4" thick before the tile. This requires either using cement board or a pored mudbed.

How thick should a sub-floor be when installing ceramic tiles?

You need 1 1/4" of subfloor. Typically it is 3/4" of plywood or OSB and 1/2" of mudbase or cement board.

How many types of ceramic tiles are there?

Ceramic tiles come in different types, including glazed ceramic, porcelain, terracotta, quarry, mosaic, and cement. Glazed ceramic tiles have a hard and durable surface due to their glass-like coating. Porcelain tiles are moisture- and wear-resistant. Terracotta tiles have warm, earthy tones, while quarry tiles are unglazed and durable. Mosaic tiles are small and used for creating decorative patterns or designs. Cement tiles are a mixture of cement, sand, and pigment and are known for their durability and unique patterns. Each type of ceramic tile offers various looks and benefits for different applications.

Can you lay ceramic tiles over vinel tiles?

It is possible but I would not reccomend it. If possible remove the old tile before laying the new tile. If you want to avoid removing the old tile you can lay a cement board over the old tile before installing the new tile.

Is it necessary to prime plywood floor before installing ceramic tiles?

Ceramic tiles are normally laid on a cement base. If the floor has any flexibility at all, the tiles will wind up cracking. But if you do have to install tiles on top of wood, then yes, the wood has to be sealed because the grout is mixed with water, which can damage unsealed wood.

Cement used for ceramic floor tiles?

Ceramic floor tiles need an acrylic fortified thinset. The acrylic can be added as a liquid or can be already in the mix. There are premixed thinsets available on the market. These are not preferable since they are often not as strong. _________________________________________________________________________________ The cement used for fixing ceramic tiles is white cement or ordinary portland cement. The white cement gives better bonding than the ordinary cement. The use of white cement will not be economical when compared to ordinary cement.
