It truly depends on the individual family, and should be discussed on a case-by-case basis with their parents. For some families, a college student coming home to stay during breaks is not a big deal.

Some parents may trust their children to come in at an appropriate time by themselves, as long as they are acting responsibly and come home quietly without disturbing others.

For other families, though - those who might have younger children still living at home and attending school, or parents might have jobs that force them to get up really early ever morning - a curfew might be needed.

While a college student might be upset about the idea of a curfew for a couple weeks disrupting their social life, they need to consider how coming in all hours of the night could disrupt the family's normal routines with their behavior.

Yes. Your mother birthed you. Come home to show her how much you care. The (hopefully untold) sacrifices that you will make to be there will absolutely pale in comparison to the sacrifices she has made for you.

In IN is it legal for the police to arrest a fourteen year old for being out 3 minutes before curfew?

apparently it is because i did, and it was only three minutes before curfew ended.. Normally you should not be arrested until you have done something wrong and illegal. But there are certain exceptions to this rule. You can be arrested if an officer believes you are about to do something illegal. It may be that the officer knew you were not going to be able to get home in the time you had left before curfew. He may have been saving himself from waiting the minutes until curfew started. This may be appropriate if he had more important things waiting for him. I guess this was not the case though as arresting you caused him to take up his time dealing with you. I am not sure if he just took you home and de-arrested you with a warning, or if he took you to the police station and had your parents come and collect you.
