Some who are paranoid and afraid of their family, friends, neighbors and co-workers (and of what they might do themselves, if they only had a gun) would say: "No! There are too many paranoid and immature people around not to mention road rage and drive-byes. We don't need more problems." Others have looked at past statistics from federal law enforcement and various states which issue such permits and see that there is no increase in such crimes attributable to permit holders, and that permit holders are trustworthy and law-abiding citizens who don't get into trouble. Many sources of information show that permit holders are not problems for society, and perhaps that having them in society is a good thing for a peaceful society.
The US Constitution is clear, it reads; Amendment 2: "A well regulated Militia, being necessary to the security of a free state, the right of the people to keep and bear arms shall not be infringed." If you read the founding documents that support this you will find the reason. Some say this amendment was added to get the constitution ratified but that is simply not true. The last state required to ratify the constitution was New York on 3/4/1789, the first ten amendments were not passed until 12/15/1791. That would be 2 years after the constitution goes into effect. The reason that we have remained a free society is the people have firearms.
The simple answer is yes. However, there must be some limitations such as prohibiting convicted felons from possessing firearms and preventing law abiding citizens from owning fully automatic weapons.
absolutely NOT, you would have anarchy and bloodbaths on a daily basis, just like in the old West!!!!*
*or modern America
Opinions vary on this one. Personally, I support concealed carry legislation. Self defence should be an inherent right.
No. They support the right of law abiding people to own guns.
This amendment gives people the right to keep and bear arms (weapons, guns specifically.)
In the US, about one third of all the people own a gun, so I would suspect they think it is right. Addendum: I suspect rather more than that think it's right in the sense that they think it's fine for people who want guns to have guns to have them. I don't personally own a gun, but I am generally in favor of the Bill of Rights, which says, and I quote, "... the right of the people to keep and bear arms shall not be abridged."
In the US, yes, there is.
Yes. Criminals should not have guns. Normal, law abiding people, despite age, gender, race or religious preference should be allowed to own guns, and should chose whether or not they want to. No one should make the choice for them.
Not at all, the UN says, after a study, that Scotland has the most violence of all developed countries, that, with the amount of sectarian and religious bigotry in Scotland, is only one of numerous reasons that any country should not be allowed to carry guns.
only people who are members of a militia should be able to own guns
It would be bad. Soldiers could violate the right of the people and even use guns to bully them.
yes they can owns guns
Gives every citizen the right to own guns.
To make necessary the security of a free state. People also own guns to protect themselves or their families and for target shooting. Others may own guns as a means of hunting during appropriate season in order to feed their families.
The right to keep and own guns. And "it shall not be infringed."
