You can search online at Canadian Archives or the Canadian Virtual War Memorial. The medallion should have the soldier's serial numberso that should help you match up the records. For the Virtual Memorial, just plug in the name and search through the results. You will receive basic results: unit, where he's buried etc. Sometimes you get lucky and find more info, like his family, photos etc. Then go to Archives Find a Soldier. You will be able to get his attestation (enlistment) records. If you become really interested, you can order the soldier's entire record, it will cost anywhere from $5 to $40, depending on how large the file is. Some (very, very few) actually have all their records online now. The gov of Canada is posting them, but it is a very long and slow process and will take years.
