Emergency Heat [EM] should only be used as a backup if the heat pump fails. EM heat uses 1.5 to 3 times as much or electricity as the heat pump.
Auxilary heat is a second source of heat when your primary source can not keep up on it's own (either electric or gas).

A programmable thermostat works fine with a heat pump. Just remember that a heat pump does not heat as fast as a furnace because of the lower BTU ratings so do not set the thermostat as far back as you normally would. Also make sure to buy a thermostat that has heat pump terminals.

Yes! Thermostat stuck open. Replace thermostat. It could, but the thermostat is normally open when the engine is warm so you should only notice this when the engine is cold or warming up.
If there are lines coming from the transmission to the radiator, it has a cooler in the radiator. If there are lines from the transmission to an external heat exchanger, that would be an auxiliary cooler.
