The better question is what is leaking transmission fluid?
If your car is still running, IMMEDIATELY drain the fluid from your transmission and change the filter. Then refill it with proper fluid. Hopefully you only topped up your tranny with it so there is still proper fluid in there and this might have saved you.
Change the filter, flush transmission, fresh filter and fluid' walla it might work! We did this, and still no drive.
Assuming you have fluid at right level and the bands have not run dry, try adjusting bands. If still not working recon.transmissions are cheap enough
Where is it leaking from? Could be front or rear seal or coolant lines Did you change gasket when you changed fluid?
Because you are out of transmission fluid!! Been there, done that. Check your transmission fluid, it's probably very low. Add some and you should be good to go. You should still get your transmission checked out by a mechanic though, because you probably have a leak.
Check the fluid level first. Then change the filter if it has one and if still not working take it in to get checked out by a transmission specialist.
While some people might panic and start screaming OH MY GOD!!! I would say run the engine for a few minutes and let the transmission fluid help clean and lubricate everything, then change the oil. Transmission fluid is obviously not a good replacement for engine oil, but some of the additives in it can help to clean out an engine without destroying components, or seals. So dont panic, dont put it in there often, but you should still change it before taking it on any trips. :) PS. I have used transmission fluid to salvage engines that were once thought dead
It means that your transmission has been hot and the fluid has overheated. If the transmission is still functioning properly then have the fluid and filter changed ASAP.
Change the fluid an filter. If it still whines, seek out professional help.
If it is a rear-wheel-drive vehicle you should see a transmission dipstick near the back of the engine. Transmissions are often checked with the engine running and in neutral but some vehicle manufacturers requre that their transmissions be checked with the engine off. Always have the vehicle parked on a level surface to check the transmission fluid. Transmission fluid should be bright red. If it has turned dark and smells burnt you might be having transmission problems. When automatic transmission clutches slip they produce heat that burns the fluid. You should never have a burnt smell to the transmission fluid. If the transmission still shifts ok you should have the fluid changed every 60,000 miles at least. Some manufacturers suggest more often. If all else fails, go to a full service gas station and ask them to check the transmission fluid and watch while they do it.
what is the problem when the car will not go in drive or reverse? and the transmission fluid is still full
