What is the difference of a destoyer battleship and cruiser battleship?

There are three different types of warship. Battleships are In the USN named after states, are heavily armed(l6 Inch cannons) and armored, Cruisers are or were named after cities(Boston, for example, have armament of either 6 inch or 8 Inch guns and Destroyers, primarily out to fight subs, are the fastest and lightest full Fleet ships and have normally only five inch guns but heavy torpedo and depth charge armament. The US Navy has never used cruiser battleships=which would be imn between the tonnage and armament of a Cruiser (Ca) and a Battleship (BB) The closest might be the so-called Battle cruisers of the territorial class which had l2-inch guns an odd Calliber in the USN the british had Battle Cruisers which had heavy ordnance(up to l5 inch guns, but very light deck armor= the H.M.s. Hood was sunk with heavy loss being one of these hybrid ships! They had a high cruising speed compared to a reguyalr battleship, but were not as well protected. with modern aircraft and dive bombers about this was not adequate defense. There is no detroyer-battleship but there wee heavy vessels inthe Japanese navy betweeemn a destroyer and a cruiser, these had very heavy torpedo armament. It WA claimed undr ideal conditons they could(Knock Off) anentire task force with multiple torpedo salvos- firingorders would be-One and two Banks- 20 degrees spread and twelve fish could be fired at once! Mp UIs ships of this type._____________________________________________________________________The term "battleship" is sometimes incorrectly subsituted for "warship," and this may be the case with this question. In the days when warships were built of wood and powered by sail, a large ship with a lot of big guns was called a "Battle-Ship of the Line." Over time this nomenclature was abbreviated to "battleship." The cruiser developed in the 1800's, smaller and less powerful than a battleship but with the ability to remain at sea for long periods of time. These warships had to be protected from torpedo boats, so the "Torpedo Boat Destroyer" was developed, and this name was later shortened to "destroyer." In the 1900's, torpedo boats became less of a problem, but the larger warships still needed protection from new weapons, the aircraft and the submarine. By the same token, the "Aircraft Carrier" is now more commonly known simply as a "carrier."As destroyers have improved, the difference between cruiser and destroyer has become less apparent. The cruiser is primarily a command-and-control ship now.Although USN battleships have made brief comebacks since the end of WWII (Korea, Vietnam, Gulf War) for shore bombardment, this contributor believes that they may still have value for those close fleet actions which can pop up at the most unexpected of times.Pacific Fleet carriers USS Lexington and USS Saratoga were planned in the 1930's as battle cruisers like the HMS Hood, but they were converted to carriers. The Battle of Leyte Gulf in 1944 was the largest sea battle in history. A careful study of this battle reveals the strengths and weaknesses of these warship types.
