Mild exercise, i.e. walking, has benefits for people suffering high blood pressure. Research has shown that walking several times a week for at least half an hour can help lower high blood pressure. It is best to avoid continued strenuous exercise, however - high BP causes greater strain on the arteries, and in strenuous exercise, one is making one's heart work harder. If you are aiming for more strenuous exercise, be sure to work up to it slowly. Take it easy at first, and after a while you will be able to do fairly strenuous workouts. However, it is important to check with your doctor for some guidelines.

Exercise does two things: strengthen the body's muscles (helps you to pump your blood more efficiently, thus lowering the pressure needed to circulate it) and increase circulation directly. Blood pressure can be high from many causes, but being overweight and out of shape makes it worse in any case, and helping your blood circulate properly will lower the blood pressure. Many people find that they can control high blood pressure just by eating properly and exercising.

Yes, exercise can reduce high blood pressure because it strengthens your heart. A stronger heart can pump blood with less effort, thereby reducing hypertension. Also, frequent exercise causes you to sweat, ridding the body of salt. This may be beneficial to people with high blood pressure.

What happens to the BP of a poorly-conditioned individual after a vigorous exercise compared to a well-conditioned athlete?

"BP is indirectly indicated by intensity or exertion levels. The systolic BP is expected to rise because of the increase in cardiac output. Diastolic BP is expected to remain equivalent to resting levels or decrease during exercise indicating an increase of vasodilation and an opening of the capillary beds." (Collegetermpapers)

Does anxiety cause high blood pressure such as whenever I take my blood pressure it is high but since Im only 18 could I just be getting anxiety when taking it and getting false readings?

Probably not. Too little information for a good answer. Are you overweight? Could your blood pressure machine be malfunctioning. Is just your's high or does it read high for everybody. Are you "normal" readings in the high area. Don't fool around. If it's high, get it down. Lose weight. Exercise. See your Dr. for bp lowering drugs. A stroke is not a laughing matter. --Absolutely anxiety can raise blood pressure. Try sitting and relaxing for at least 5 minutes before checking it in a comfortable place. Anxiety releases adrenaline, which will raise your bp, as will exercise (even though it helps it in the long run). However, if you're calm cool and collected and your bp is still high you should definetely go see your doctor, just to be on the safe side.
