The justification for war in Iraq in 2003 was the weapons of mass destruction, which, it turned out, did not exist. From the evidence emerging at the current enquiry in Britain it seems likely that the intelligence info about WMDs was overstated within government, and that Bush was looking for an excuse to got to war to bring about regime change, i.e. to get rid of Saddam.
