Tying ribbons on to ballet slippers is a little difficult at first, but eventually it becomes as simple and routine as typing your shoes. Tying ribbons on to ballet slippers the right way is important for comfort and support. The inside of each shoe should have a fourteen inch ribbon stitched along each side. The ribbons should also be attached more toward the back of the slipper. That is, the ribbon should match up with the part of the foot where your heel begins. You should start with the ribbon that is located on the outer edge of your foot, the outside ribbon. You will pull it straight, wrap it over the front of your ankle, above your ankle bone, around the back of your ankle, and around to the front. You will then slide the ribbon underneath the part of the ribbon that is already wrapped around the front of your ankle. The edge of the ribbon should run through the inside of the ankle. It should be held firmly in place. Now start with the inside ribbon. Wrap it over the front of the ankle and around the back. Instead of wrapping it around once, you will wrap it around one and a half times so that the end of the inside ribbon matches up with the end of the outside ribbon, both located at the inside ankle. The ends of the two ribbons should then be tied to one another. Make sure that the knot is tight enough that it will not come apart, but loose enough that it is not uncomfortably tight. There will be excess ribbon dangling from the knot. Fold this excess in to a square shape and slide it back under the band of ribbon so that it is concealed on the inside of your ankle. some of the ribbon might need to be cut off in order for this to work properly. This depends on the size of your ankles and the length of the ribbons. A few things to keep in mind. Don’t tie the ribbons too tight because this will cut off the circulation of blood to your feet. You should also make sure that it isn’t too loose, because it won’t provide you with enough support.
A pink ribbon tied around a tree means that the tier supports the Breast Cancer cause.
This depends purely on how large one's ankles are. Tie your ribbons around your ankle, ignoring any excess ribbon for the time being. If you do not know how to tie your ribbons, look it up at www.youtube.com. Once the ribbons are tied, cut them off at about two inches after the knot. Once taken off the foot, on ribbon should be longer than the other. Keep in mind that when you place the shoe on your foot with the ribbons untied, the longer ribbon should be on the inside.

Ribbon, in the sense of long, narrow strips of linen cloth, was certainly known in ancient Egypt. Noblewomen often had ribbons tied around their hair or wigs, or a long, crimped ribbon tied around their dresses under the bust, with the two long ends hanging down to mid-calf in front. In hieroglyphs the word for ribbon or garland was written s-sh-d (with unknown vowels). See link below for an image showing Isis with a ribbon tied around her hair, leading Queen Nefertari who has a long crimped ribbon tied around her dress:
