On my 87'toyota truck the pulley on the ac compressor it smoking bad and making a knock how do you know weither to replace the clutch or the compressor or both or is that even the problem?
Sounds like the compressor is shot and it would be best to replace both. Unfortunately when the compressor goes bad it sends metal trash throughout the system. If you replace the compressor with out having the system flushed clean (which is almost impossible to do) the trash in the system will eventually destroy the new compressor.

Advice is to replace compressor the clutch goes bad only when the compressor goes bad on this model. They are sold to guys that rebuild compressors. Napa has the best price for clutches if you still want to try. Ebay there is a guy that sell rebuilt compressors for just a little more than the new clutch.

When it stops working do you mean that it quits cooling or the a/c compressor goes bad ???? If it quits cooling and the a/c compressor is good then you either have a leak in the system or the system has a restriction. If the a/c compressor is bad then you have a lot of trash in the system from the first one that was replaced..............

I`m not sure exactly why you are wanting to know that but ALL cars and trucks are the same. The LOW side hose goes inside the car from the compressor and the HIGH side hose allways goes to the condensor (in front of the radiator)from the compressor. Some cars have a liquid line (small) but your does not. Hope this will help you. Ray
