Alcoholics have difficulty abstaining from alcohol for long periods of time, they often hide alcohol, they often "pre-load" before going out, they tend to be defensive about their drinking, they often prefer to be around other alcoholics, and they often spend much money on alcohol.
An alcoholic will become dependent on alcohol to get through daily life. Signs that a person is an alcoholic could be constant over drinking of alcohol, dependency to get through stress, anger problems, and decreased health and hygiene.
Maybe, maybe not. Slurring and walking with exaggerated care are first and foremost signs of someone being drunk (and trying to hide it). But these signs will be the same regardless if you're drunk on a regular basis(like an alcoholic) or if it's your very first buzz. An alcoholic while sober is unlikely to display those signs.
In a person who is an alcoholic, the liver cells will look much different from those of occasional drinkers or non drinkers. This is due to alcohol causing cirrhosis in the liver of the alcoholic, which actually breaks down the liver cells. The cells in the occasional and non drinker would look much healthier.
