Similarities and differences in the ways the US and Canada each achieved independence?
Canada gained its independence without going through a war. Instead, England simply set up the government in Ottawa and made Canada independent. The United States had to fight a war to gain independence. On the other hand, the United States gained its independence with the help of the French Army. After the American Civil War ended, the United States had the most powerful Army and Navy in the world. Canada wanted its independence. Queen Victoria ordered Parliament to grant independence to Canada.
