The reason that so many religions band the occult stems from the truth behind religion. The oldest religion is what is now known as the occult. It began with prehistoric man worshiping God through nature. They believed that there was a God who provided animals to hunt. They believed that there was a God who gave them the Sun. There was a god that gave them plants, and so on. Eventually organized religions came along and they combined all these Gods into a singular spiritual being.
However people clung to the old traditions and eventually to bring more people into the modern religions they began teaching that the old Gods were evil. The biggest example would be the devil. He is a cloven hooved, horned, animalistic deity. He is a carbon copy in appearance to the old god of the hunt. They taught that if you worship these Gods you are actually worshipping an evil being. That following the evil beings would result in you going to a place of punishment after you died. Unfortunately to hide the truth they discouraged people from asking too many questions and a lot of religious history was lost because of this.
So no, the occult is not banned because it is about the unknown. The occult is banned simply because they want to keep it unknown and mysterious.

In todays society the word occult is considered to be of an evil nature or against God. It was Hollywood who marketed on the negative aspects of the occult, which spawned fear amongst an ignorant society. To study the Bible and gain hidden knowledge or wisdom that is not literally mentioned is simply occult. It is hidden on purpose, so we would have to seek answers and earn our wisdom. These hidden messages and meanings are meant to be found precisely when we are meant to find them. It has to do with spiritual growth and development. "If ye seek, you shall find" You can read a specific verse today, but tomarrow it may mean something completely different. The Bible is filled with hidden knowledge. So, my answer is yes. It was mentioned in the Bible. We may not find a literal word of it, but it is there. Especially since most of us know about it.
