An increase in size can two significant effects on the organism: first greater size means a decrease in the ratio between surface area and mass (usually) so that heat loss across the skin decreases. Larger animals have a lower rate of metabolism by weight. Secondly is in height's effects on blood pressure differences. In a two meter human we have to adjust our heart rates to avoid orthostatic hypotension. The problem for a giraffe is even more dramatic.

As an object gets larger, the ratio of volume to surface area increases. This has a variety of consequences, such as increased retention of heat.

The force of gravity, which is too small even to detect on the atomic level, gradually becomes more significant as objects increase in size. On the largest sizes, such as planets and stars, gravity become overwhelmingly the most powerful force.

Quantum indeterminacy, such as the tendency of sub-atomic particles to act as if they are also waves, becomes much less significant, and harder to observe, as objects get larger.

I am so sorry, but I only can give you 3 examples:

  • Mass
  • Surface Area
  • Gravitational Pull

I will, however, give you 3 examples of independent properties of matter as well:

  • Density
  • State of Matter
  • Color

Size dependent properties are properties of matter that can change within scale. This property depends on the quantity of matter the object has. These properties cannot be by themselves to characterize a type of matter. An example is "water has a mass of 4 kilograms". Another example is "the feathers weigh one pound". Size independent properties are more specific. They can be found when using the formula density equals mass divided by volume. An example is "one feather weighs one gram". Size independent properties are more important than size dependent properties.

Example of density dependent factor?

predation, availability of food, disease, parasitism Things that depend on the size of the population, as opposed to density independent factors such as weather, and natural disasters.

What are observable properties?

Well there characteristics you can see with your eye.

Teture shape size and color are all examples of properties of matter?

The General Properties of Matter 1. Mass- very common to all matter. Mass does not change unless divided or removed to a body of matter. 2. Weight- it depends in the attraction of the pull of gravity thus, it changes from place to place. 3. Impenetrability- there are no two things that can occupy the same space. 4. Inertia- a matter that is at rest will remain at rest but can only be moved when external force is applied. 5. Porosity- states that matter has pores. 6. Form and shape- where we can distinguish what kind of matter is the thing observed. 7. Volume- capacity or space occupied. And boiling point elevation, freezing point depression.

What is a hetrometre?

Heterometric means involving or dependent on a change in size. I think it has something to do with hetrometre. Maybe.

What is an example of an extensive chemical property?

Extensive (dependent on the size) and intensive (independent on the size) are terms used generally for physical properties.

What is the difference between intensive and extensive properties?

The different between intensive properties and extensive properties is that one is depend on the amount of matter present and one is do not depend on the amount of matter of present.
