235, 6 cylinder, or 265, V-8. The V-8 was introduced in 55, the 265. The 283, I think 55, but only in the Vette. It was not offered in the Bel-air's, until 57.

At the base of the distributor, there is a tab, with a bolt in it. Tightening or loosening this bolt, will do the same, with the distributor. The distributor, by the way, times the motor, so, you will need to retime it.
The most similar vehicle, ironicaly, would be the 55, Chevy.

The 56 Chevy 2 ton should have been available with an inline six cylinder and a 265 V8 presumably of different output than the passenger car and half ton truck.
