Women dressed very plainly during World War II. Nylons were not worn because the fabric was needed for the military. They wore suits or clothing suitable for working. Hair cuts were plain because women were saving money and most of the men were in the service.
Most women in the military served as nurses.
they went to work in factories because there were no men to work in them. rosie the riveter, etc. they produced goods for the war effort.this was the destruction of the nuclear family as we know it.
The affects of World War II on women was at the same time good and bad. Good because with the absence of men, women were hired for work. During WWII a huge female labor force developed. Women learned to be more independent and had money of there own. Also a movement started that encouraged the strength of women to wendure the affects of the war, to be strong. All that awesome stuff.
What sucks is when men started coming back, they took over the work again, and women were forced back into their submissive lifestyle. Hence the 1950's ideal of the housewife. Churches and all sorts of authorities in the media did there best to put women back "in their place", by spreading the ideal of a traditional family where the husband goes out to get the bacon, and the wife stays at home looking after the kids and making apple pie.
With all of the men fighting the war, women basically took over the workforce during World War 2.
Becoming a widow.
