What adverse effects can be caused by thermal expansion of materials?

Can lead to the cracking, warping, or loosening of components in the structure during their service life, and they can lead to the cracking of ceramic parts and in the tools and dies made of relatively brittle materials.

What is the difference between a compression fitting and a capillary fitting?

The difference between a compression fitting, and a capillary fitting is: in plumbing, are two types of fastening pipe together. Compression is the squeezing of a material around that of another material to secure a leak proof joint. A capillary fitting is a fitting usually involving a heat source as in copper pipe being soldered together. Soldering two pieces of pipe using a gas propane torch and a joiner which is simply another small piece of copper pipe that is made larger at both end to allow the pipes to enter each end of the joiner. After cleaning the ends and applying a flux to the ends you are ready to fasten the pipes together by just heating the joiner when the temperature is hot enough the solder will melt around the pipe. In a vertical position the top will solder easily, with gravity and heat. The bottom will use capillary action which is a sucking up of the solder due to the heat and flux.

Description and properties of chip board?

chip board like all other manufactured (man made) sheets of wood are compressed with load of other left over paces of wood and made in to sheets each man made sheet is made differently as each has a different use

What is solder made up of?

Tin and LeadThere are many different metals in solder. Some of the metal an individual may find in solder are: lead, tin, copper, and aluminum.answ2. Solders are still made of alloys of tin and lead, and with the addition of other metals to provide particular performance. Some solders contain no lead, and there exist solders of SnZn for soldering aluminum. Have a look at Solder in wikipedia.org. There are probably no countries which still allow lead containing solders for potable water use, or for food cans.Rosin cored solders are first made as a chunky billet several cm in diameter, with holes drilled through it to contain the rosin. This is then passed through standard wire drawing processes to produce the familiar wire form solder for electronics.Lead pipe is nowadays seldom used in plumbing applications.A1. Usually tin and solder, but not so much lead anymore, as it is poisonous.answ2. Usually tin and solder, but not so much lead anymore, as it is poisonous. There are a few different types of solder, for different applications, but common electrical solder may contain lead, antimony and tin. This can also appear as 'flux cored solder' where a wax-like acidic chemical (sorry, don't know exactly what it is), which has the ability to cause the molten solder to bond to other metals, is inside a tube of solder.Without flux, it is extremely difficult to make the solder stick to other metals. Baker's Soldering Fluid is an age-old flux made from hydrochloric acid and zinc chloride in liquid form which is used to etch the surface of the metal to be soldered, and allows the use of un-cored solder.Soldering wire is made from an alloy of tin and lead. Typically, it is 60% tin, and 40% lead.Soft solder is made of an alloy of tin and lead.Hard solders (for jewelry work) a usually made mainly our of the metal being worked (e.g. silver)

Which is heavier lead or solder?

Lead. The densities of lead and tin are 11.34 g/cm^3 and ~7 g/cm^3, respectively. Lead solder is an alloy made of mostly lead and tin; a mixture of lead and tin will weigh less than 100% lead. Lead-free solders are made of tin, copper, silver, indium, bismuth, zinc, antimony, and other metals; none of these metals is heavier than lead. So, lead is the champion.

What is a solder reel?

A reel of solder used for joining electrical circuits together on circuit boards. Solder is made of a mixture of tin and lead and sometimes has has flux (a form of acid) in the core of the solder to ensure a clean surface for the solder to flow into.

Alloy of tin and lead?

Bronze is made from lead, tin, and copper; if you leave out the copper you get an impoverished bronze.

What does solder consist of?

Solder has traditionally been a tin lead alloy, but there are many variations depending on the application:jeweler's solder or silver solder, has always contained silver to prevent the solder from dissolving silver and/or gold from the item being solderedother low melting point metals are sometimes added to make low melting point solderpure tin solder is sometimes used to eliminate toxic leadetc.Solder sold in the form of wire is sometimes hollow with a core filled with flux paste to make soldering easier without the need for extensive precleaning of the work so that the solder properly wets. For plumbing purposes (where the work can be rinsed afterwords) the flux paste is acidic and very corrosive, for electronics work the flux paste is a rosin.

A metal made of tin and lead?

both are metals

Solder - lead and tin uses?

A solder is a metal or alloy that has a melting point range of 90 to 450 degrees Celsius (200 to 840 degrees Fahrenheit). The melting point range makes sure that the metal or alloy is easily handled at room temperature, can be melted to join other metallic surfaces when a moderate amount of heat is applied, and returns to a solid state when it cools down to make the joining permanent. Lead has a melting point of 327.46 degrees Celsius (621.43 degrees Fahrenheit) and therefore it can be used as solder. Mercury, however, has a melting point of -38.83 degrees Celsius (-37.89 degrees Fahrenheit) and it is liquid even at room temperature. Therefore it cannot be used as solder because a liquid that does not solidify cannot be expected to join two surfaces permanently.

Is solder a lead alloy?

Most commonly, but antimony is another basic component of some solders. The European Union, China, and California are areas where lead solder is banned in consumer products. Tin-lead solders were most often used because they are easily melted and inexpensive. Lead-based solders have a few problems which are reducing their popularity: - Environmental concerns about e-waste - Worker safety concerns for people who constantly work with solder - The low melting point, which is not suitable for modern microprocessors Any metal which is melted to bond to another metal is a solder. Silver solder is used to repair silver jewelry, and gold solder to repair gold. Silver solder is also used in food-grade plumbing. Drinking water is soldered with lead-free solder (but lead was used in nearly all plumbing soldering until the late 1980s).
