David was 30 years old when he began to reign and it was only after he had reigned in Judah for seven and a half years that he then reigned for a furthur 33 years "over all Israel and Judah" :- 2Sa 5:4-5 KJV David was thirty years old when he began to reign, and he reigned forty years. [v. 5] In Hebron he reigned over Judah seven years and six months: and in Jerusalem he reigned thirty and three years over all Israel and Judah.

King David reigned for 40 years. I Kings 2:11 - David reigned for seven years in Hebron, and then thirty-three years in Jerusalem between the years of around 1000 and the 970's BC. He is thought to have been contemporary with the pharaoh Siamun and Ahirom king of Tyre/Byblos. This has been confirmed by most Biblical scholars and certain fragments of Aramic documents support this. Thus we see a reign in total by King David from the 1000 BC to 970 BC dates as stated above.
