Chalking is a sign of excessive oxidation to the fiberglass. Fiberglass roofs can be cleaned the same way as rubber roofs. After cleaning and/or removing the oxidation, the roof needs a protectant e.g., RV Roof Magic. Use of a protectant is in lieu of waxing.

Fiberglass Oxidation occurs naturally, as exposure to sun and weather break down the gelcoat's surface and turn it chalky and pitted. You should wash your RV once a month with a car wash, and then wax. The wax will form a protective coating between the elements and the gel coat. But after a period of time, the wax will wear off and the gel coat will be exposed once again to the elements. As a result, this requires the regular removal of oxidation and a fresh coat of wax. Washing and waxing an RV is a big job. However, if you want to keep your RV looking good and maintain its resale value, keeping the shine is essential.

Even after washing rv roof white streaks cover the wind shield and sides?

The white streaks you’re seeing are oxidation run-off from the gel-coat on your roof fiberglass. Oxidation is a result of the sun’s UV exposure on the gel coat. Try a solution of one cup of detergent and a gallon of warm water to remove the streaks. Add a cup of bleach to this solution to take care of any mildew that may have formed on your roof. If the streaks remain after washing with the soap solution, look for a fiberglass cleaning product that should be readily available at any good RV or marine accessory store. To prevent the oxidation from recurring, apply a coating of RV Roof Magic to your RV roof every six months to year depending on the level of sun exposure.
