Not many Americans like the idea of space exploration, some think it's to much money to handle. But those that do believe that it is valuable have seen all the good technological advances that have been made.
Technological innovations from early America would seem primitive to people today because technology has advanced very far since that time. The lightbulb, bicycle, automobile and locomotive are all amazing innovations that shaped the course of history, but they pale in sophistication compared to modern innovations such as space shuttles, cell phones, supercomputers, the internet, and nuclear weapons.
While it has been a costly endeavor, space exploration has produced substantial rewards. Many of the radical technological advancements that we take for granted today were the by-product of the race to explore space. Cellular phones and satellite television are just two of these notable achievements.
Space exploration became an area for cooperation between the Soviet Union and the US primarily due to competition during the Cold War. Both countries sought to demonstrate their technological prowess and gain global prestige through achievements in space exploration. Collaborating allowed for sharing technological expertise, resources, and costs, ultimately leading to successful joint ventures such as the Apollo-Soyuz Test Project.
