Spain and Portugal, Treaty of Tordesillas
Spain and Portugal
Both Spain and Portugal wanted to protect their claims and they turned to pope Alexander VI for help. In 1493 he drew a line of demarcation, an imaginary line, down the middle of the world north and south to the poles and all the land west was controlled by Spain and the land east was controlled by porugal. Porugal compained that the favor was in Spain so they moved the line west and that is how they divided the unexplored world
Spain and Portugal divide the Americas by a line called the demarcation. that Pope Alexander decided where to put it.
The Treaty of Tordesillas claimed that their line of demarcation (an imaginary line that divided their spheres of influence) would extend from north to south through the Atlantic Ocean and the easternmost part of the South American continent. They agreed that unexplored territories east of the line would be controlled by Portugal, and those west of the line by Spain.
Britain
The Treaty of Tordesillas was signed in 1494 by Spain and Portugal to divide newly discovered territories outside Europe. It aimed to prevent conflicts over newly discovered lands by setting a boundary line and giving each country exclusive rights to explore and colonize different regions.
The pact also secretly agreed to divide Poland and other parts of eastern Europe between the two powers.
The agreement was called the Treaty of Tordesillas. It did not divide wealth specifically, rather it was the first attempt to divide the spheres of influence in the New World between Portugal and Spain.
Both the United States and Russia made the decision to divide Korea at the 38th parallel.
