Likely speed sensor in transmission, or the cluster is bad

This is a common problem with all the GM vehicles from 2000 to 2006 I had the same problem in my 2005 Impala the speedometer went haywire at 89K miles. I found a website where I had it fixed for $120 dollars. here is the website in case you want to check it out.

The first (and easiest, and CHEAPEST) thing to check is the VSS (vehicle speed sensor). It is located on the passenger side wheel, here is an excellent guide with photos and replacement instructions: http://www.justanswer.com/questions/29v0n-how-do-you-change-a-speed-sensor-in-a-2005-chevy-carlo

Took my 2005 Chevy Monte Carlo in and BINGO! Both the vehicle speed sensor and the cluster was bad. Reason we knew the cluster was bad was my speedometer was going crazy. We knew the sensor was bad because the traction light was on along with the ABS Brake light. Thanks for all the information, but it ended up costing $1,800 because they found a leak near the intake manifold and since I had spent $2,000 (when I purchased the car) on the extended warranty...it cost me $35 because the warranty doesn't cover oil changes. Thank God I bought the warranty because the wiper motor went out and it would've cost me $350 but it was free. At this point...we're even and anything else is bonus!
