The age and value of the weapon I haven't researched yet, however, firing and modern 12g round through it won't harm the weapon. These barrells were not rifled so stay away from slugs it's a breach load anyhow. Any 2 3/4 or 3" shot shell should work. I have noticed that older firearms tend to not want to eject the 3" shells, I would stick to a 2 1/2 or 2 3/4. Fire one of each and find what works best and stick with that. As long as the weapon is cared for properly it will provide generations of use. Some will argue that you can fire slugs which is correct you can, but I don't recomend it without the barrell rifled, and you sacrafice accuracy.
