At the conclusion of the US Civil War, the 13th Amendment to the US Constitution abolished slavery in the United States. The South had no choices about slavery as being a defeated rebellious force, the Republican dominated Federal Government and slavery was abolished. Southerners realized that whatever their wishes were about slavery, it would no longer exist in the United States.

Both had slavery, the south just had it for longer.
I do believe the abolishment of slavery in history is when the president signed a bill that freed the majority if not all African -American slaves. This particular statement tells that Slavery should no longer be in an existence in the United States of America, due to the US Constitution.
At first, there were more slave states than free states, so pro-slavery senators controlled the senate. They could reject anti-slavery judges and cabinet members and stop legislation that was against slavery. As the northern population grew, and slavery ended in several northern states, eventually there were more anti-slavery senators. This meant that the slave owners were no longer in control of the government and was one cause of the war.
The Thirteenth Amendment officially abolished slavery in the United States. This obviously had a huge impact on African Americans and their lifestyles. They were no longer sold as property, and instead were recognized as human beings.

An immediate result of the US Civil War was the abolition of slavery with the ratification of the 13th Amendment to the US Constitution in 1865. This amendment legally ended slavery and involuntary servitude throughout the United States.
The Thirteenth Amendment, passed in 1865, abolished slavery. It also gave Congress the power to make laws to assure that slavery would no longer exist in the United States or its territories.
