There are a lot of different steel alloys and they have several different chemicals so you cant really say steel is iron and _______. This is really a trick question because no matter what you say you are always wrong.

I think you're looking for "an alloy." According to the Wikipedia page, "An alloy is a partial or complete solid solution of one or more elements in a metallic matrix." But as I've learned in a non-scientific sense, when you melt a bunch of metals and mix 'em together, you've got an alloy.
Austenitic is not a type of steel, it is a description for steel and many stainless steels can be austenitic. Austenitic steels means that they contain 7% or more chromium or nickel as their major alloy elements and they have the highest corrosion resistance but are not heat treatable.
