According to a 2001 Vietnamese government report1, the swampiest areas in Vietnam are the Mekong river delta and the Red River delta. The least swampy areas are the central highlands and the central coast. These areas which have a lot of flooding are mainly used for rice growing. The southernmost tip of the Mekong river delta, the Ca Mau Peninsula (known in Vietnamese as Mui Bai Bang) is swampy mangrove jungle.2
