In general, the US economy is higher during election years. If Congress allows a shutdown, there will certainly be a repeat of the costs incurred in 2013. Right now, indications are that the economy is slowly improving.
It depends on how you look at it. Many will say it is going great others will say it is getting worse. It all depends on how you look on it, looking on here however, will most likely confuse you.
"they" leave certain key things out of the GDP in order to make it look better. like if a teacher drops your 2 worst grades in the class to help your average. it manipulates the GDP to make it look like the administration is improving the GDP while it may actually be getting worse. right now the government is mainly leaving food products (and other necessities like clothes) out of the GDP to make inflation seem lower than it actually is. maybe the rest of the public will catch on to this "scam" when a box of cereal costs $25 and the government claims little or no inflation.
