Check the gear switch it is located on the dashboard. You should have it set to auto; if it is set to Hi or Lo the gear light will be on. --------------------------------------------- actually , if the lights are flashing a malfunction has been detected , get it checked out
A flashing over drive off light indicates that a malfunction has been detected with the transmission - get it checked out by a professional as soon as possible
On a 1998 Ford Explorer : If you mean the " O/D OFF " light , that indicates that the Over Drive on the transmission has been switched off using the transmission control switch on the end of your gear selector lever ( P R N etcetera ) If you haven't switched the Over Drive off or the light is flashing take it in to have it checked / repaired ( overdrive is the normally allowed position , but if you are towing something or if you are driving in hilly country where the transmission is constantly changing from overdrive to drive , you want to switch the overdrive off ( O/D OFF will appear in the dash )
Check your tire pressure, true
As long as the O/D OFF light is NOT FLASHING there isn't a problem The O/D OFF light just indicates that the overdrive ( 4th gear ) has been shut off . Press the switch on the end of your transmission gear selector ( P R N etcetera ) to allow the overdrive ( or if the Explorer engine is shut off the next time it is started the overdrive will be allowed , that is the normal position )
The " park " position is not a drive gear , you select the " park " position when you don't want the vehicle to move , and it also allows you to remove the ignition key
A flashing check engine light means that an engine cylinder misfire has been detected . You can drive it in for repair , just avoid any rapid acceleration or deceleration because you can damage the catalytic converter
The drive switch to the lower right of the steering wheel has 3 positions: Left to right they are A4WD, H4WD and L4WD. When the switch is in the H4WD position, you are in High 4 Wheel Drive.
you didn't say which lights. is the switch on the dome in the right position
If you have a lever, pull it into the four wheel drive position. If a switch, put in four wheel drive.
The flashing light is for your hard drive which you are downloading to.
Sounds like the neutral switch is out of position on the shifter or transmission
