Aztec "floating gardens" called chinampas really didn't float, they were small man made islands. They were commonly used in Ancient Mexico and Central America and specifically in Tenochtitlan
Aztec
The Aztec or Mexica people in central Mexico would qualify as such. They however, had "floating gardens" in artificial islands known as chinampas.
The Aztec warriors forced people to pay tribute, they built floating islands on the water, and they sacrificed people to the Gods. (:
The Aztec used a technique called chinampas, which involved constructing artificial islands in the swampy areas. They built up mounds of mud and decaying vegetation to create fertile plots of land on which they could grow crops. These floating gardens were efficient at farming in swampy conditions and helped the Aztec support their population.
