For North Vietnam it was.
No it most certanly was not succesfull.
If you were a Vietnamese nationalist, it would be regarded as a success. If you were pro-South Vietnam, it would be regarded as a failure.
1. Couldn't invade NORTH Vietnam 2. Couldn't use nukes 3. Couldn't stop flow of men/material in South Vietnam
No, it wasn't successful. The government never did declare it a war and didn't put in all that it could have to win.
Vietnam was definitely the least successful, it actually was no success at all. We entered under humanitarian purposes, but we were defeated. We did not stop the spread of communism, instead it took complete control of Vietnam.
1. Could not invade North Vietnam 2. Could not use atomic weapons 3. Could not stop flow of men/material into South Vietnam
If by the North Vietnamese you mean during the Vietnam war their goal was to unite all of Vietnam under a communist regime. Which was successful.
It was probably the term, "May-Day" that was used the most; by pilots and aircrewmen when they were shot down in either South or North Vietnam.
