The Wagner Act had to do with labor. It was passed in Roosevelt's second "hundred days" in response to intense labor unrest and social turmoil that included large scale strikes. Said to be the most far-reaching and radical piece of legislation passed at the time, it guaranteed workers the right to organize unions, and to strike, boycott, and picket their employers. In addition, it outlawed unfair labor practices, including blacklisting union activists and intimidating workers seeking to join independent unions. It also guaranteed works the right to collective bargaining. The Brady Handgun Violence Prevention Act, known as the Brady Law, requires a five-day waiting waiting period for the purchase of a handgun as passed during Bill Clinton's presidency in 1993. After 1998, background checks were required for individuals purchasing a firearm from a federally licensed dealer. The law was named for James Brady, who was the White House press secretary who was seriously injured in the 1981 assassination attempt against President Ronald Reagan, and is confined to a wheelchair as a result.
