A parliamentary democracy
a Bill of Rights, Bi-cameral legislature, and an elected executive
Puerto Rico has a republican form of government and is quite similar to the model used by most of the 50 US States including a bicameral Legislature, an Independent Judiciary and a strong Executive. Because it is a territory it is represented in the US Congress by a single Resident Commissioner who is elected for a four year term as a nonvoting delegate in the US House of Representatives.
The lower house legislature was elected by those property owners qualified to vote.
He was elected governor in 1779. He served in the state legislature and the Contiental Congress
After the French Revolution, the Estates General was abolished and never met again. A new constitution was created that supported property rights as well as a bicameral legislature as it was believed to be more stable than a simple one house legislature. Executive power went to the Director which consisted of five people who were elected to office by the legislators.
Yes. The president also acts as head of government and head of state.

A President is an independent executive. In the United States, the President is indirectly elected by the people. He may or may not be from the majority party in the Legislature and often opposes their activities. A Prime Minister is derived directly from the Legislature making him a dependent executive. He will be both the head of the Legislature as well as the Executive creating a uniform governmental approach. However, he is seen as the representative of the party and not necessarily the representative of the people.

The executive branch (the president).
Russia did not have an elected legislature until 1906. Spain set one up as a result of the 1848 revolution. Italy formed a legislature when it unified in 1861 and Serbia when it became an independent nation in 1878.

The difference between responsible government and representative government is that responsible government is a government subject to the votes of the people and the representative government is a government made up of officials elected to office by the people.
not appointed but elected
Canada has the Senate and the House of Commons, which is the Legislative branch of goverment; while the US has the Senate and the House of Represenatives. They are basiclly the same thing. They are just called different. The Judiual branch is the same for both countries. The Executive branch has the Queen, the General Governor, the Prime Minister, and the Cabinet. The US has the President, the Cabinet, and the Vice President.AnswerProbably the most important difference between the Canadian and American governments is that Canada follows a parliamentary system while the US follows a presidential one. This means that, in Canada, the executive branch is responsible to the legislature, while in the US, the executive branch is independent of the legislature. In Canada, if the legislature disagrees with what the executive is doing, then, potentially after trying to regain support in the legislature through a general election, the executive has to step down. Because of this, the executive branch is chosen based on the composition of the legislature after a general election. In the US, the President is elected separately, and he and his Cabinet serve their terms until the next presidential election.
