The climate controls on an 1999 Oldsmobile Intrigue stopped working. What can be the issue?

cruise control went first. then the heater controls started working one minute and then off the next. It would come on and wouldn't shut off. Then the next item that started about the same time was the headlights flashing.
change the ignition switch and solved all problems.
