True. Proposes that DOMS is caused by ischemia during exercise, resulting in the build up of pain causing substance in muscles. The pain stimulates spasm that create more ischemia contributing to the pain occurring 12 to 48 hours later. Ischemia is localized anemia resulting from mechanical obstruction of the blood supply.

What are causes of muscle soreness?

Delayed onset muscle soreness, DOMS, occurs following overexertion.. Pain during muscle use can be caused by a spasm, which slows arterial blood flow to the area and is referred to as claudication.

Is a squat eccentric or concentric?

Both. Concentric: Exercise where the muscle is contracted under a load Eccentric: Exercise where the muscle is stretched under a load. So when you squat down its eccentric, when you come back up its concentric. Most exercises are both, with a few exceptions (i.e. jumping of a wall is mainly eccentric, while a punch is mainly concentric. Eccentric contraction is associated with increased muscle growth, but also DOMS (Delayed onset muscle soreness, when your muscles are very sore after a workout).

Is it normal to feel a little sore after stretching?

Many people confuse stretching with warm up. The first part of a work out is the warm up. A warm up is joint-rotations, starting from your feet and working your way up, or from your hands and working your way down. This enables joint motion by lubricating the joint with synovial fluid. You should make slow circular movements, both clockwise and counter-clockwise. Next should be some aerobic activity this will increase your cardiovascular output. This will raise your body temperature and get your blood flowing to improve muscle performance and decrease the likelihood of injury. Once these have been completed it is safe to stretch. Stretching before your body is ready can cause DOMS. Doms is Delayed Onset Muscle Soreness thought to be caused by tiny tears in the muscle tissue generated during the cold stretch, or strenuous activity you are not used to. The solution is to perform the steps above, and do not let yourself go without some sort of physical conditioning on a regular schedule.
