no i did not replace head light switch
The headlight switch is not repairable in a Cavalier. The switch will need to be removed and replaced. The procedure is different, depending on the Cavaliers year.
and that didnt fix the problem?
I have recently been researching the same question and the consensus is that the headlight switch needs to be replaced. Several people have said this solved their problem.
Doubtful it is the headlight switch. Probably have a pinched/damaged wire somewhere that is shorting to ground. My rule of thumb when something odd happens out of the blue, I look in the general area where the vehicle was last fixed.
There could be a switch that has gone bad in the headlight. The entire assembly will more then likely need to be replaced.
A short to ground in the positive side of the headlight circuit. Most likely by a failed headlight switch. Ford is notorious for faulty healdight switches.
your headlight switch needs to be replaced. My Lincoln had the same problem, it all stems from the auto dimmer feature...replace the headlight switch (mine was 70-100 dollars) and your lights will work fine.
Fuses 18 , 19, 20, 21 are low and high beams. However, it is often times it is the ignition or headlight switch that needs replaced.
Probably have a "dimmer switch problem" The switch is mounted on the side of the steering column and can be replaced easily. Using a test light, 3 wires are at the switch. the wire coming down from the headlight switch that should be hot when headlight switch is activated. The other two are outputs which go to the high or low circuit of the headlights respectively.Easy to fix with a 12 volt test light for troubleshooting.
Probably the headlight switch is bad. When you turn the switch on, it sends current to the dash dimmer switch. Sometimes the contacts get loose in the headlight switch and it needs to be replaced.
Check bulbs Check fuses Bad light switch? Bad voltage regulator causing alternator to spike blowing out bulbs? Headlight circuit breaker? Headlight relay?
could be the the headlight switch, dimmer switch, headlight relay, or a problem with the wiring
